Experience of that moment.

"If you remember nothing else, always remember this one great secret of spiritual practice: we don't have to feel any particular way. We don't have to have special experiences, nor do we have to be any particular way. With whatever arises, whether it's pleasing or not, try to remember that all we can do is experience and work with whatever our life is right now. No matter what life is and no matter how we feel about it, all that matters in practice is whether we can honestly acknowledge what is going on, and then stay present with the physical experience of that moment."

Neuer Frühling

Neuer Frühling

Unterm weißen Baume sitzend,
Hörst du fern die Winde schrillen,
Siehst, wie oben stumme Wolken
Sich in Nebeldecken hüllen;

Siehst, wie unten ausgestorben
Wald und Flur, wie kahl geschoren; -
Um dich Winter, in dir Winter,
Und dein Herz ist eingefroren.

Plötzlich fallen auf dich nieder
Weiße Flocken, und verdrossen
Meinst du schon, mit Schneegestöber
Hab der Baum dich übergossen.

Doch es ist kein Schneegestöber,
Merkst es bald mit freudgem Schrecken;
Duftge Frühlingsblüten sind es,
Die dich necken und bedecken.

Welch ein schauersüßer Zauber!
Winter wandelt sich in Maie,
Schnee verwandelt sich in Blüten,
Und dein Herz es liebt aufs neue.

 "Water Lilies," 1895 by Isaac Levitan

"Everywhere transience is plunging into the depths of Being… It is our task to imprint this temporary, perishable earth into ourselves so deeply, so painfully and passionately, that its essence can rise again, “invisibly,” inside us. We are the bees of the invisible. We wildly collect the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the invisible."

 Rainer Maria Rilke, writing to his Polish translator about writing the "Duino Elegies."

What More Enlightenment Do You Want

The Antique Vase by Milt Kobayashi

"When you don’t have obsession,
When you don’t have hang-ups,
when you don’t have inhibition,
When you are not afraid,
You will be breaking certain rules.
When you are not afraid
You will not fulfill somebody’s expectations.
What more enlightenment do you want.

That’s it."

"The great lesson from the true mystics, from the zen monks, from the humanistic and transpersonal psychologists, is that the sacred is in the ordinary, that it is to be found in one’s daily life, in one’s neighbors, friends, and family, in one’s own back yard. This lesson can be easily lost. To be looking elsewhere for miracles is to me a sure sign of ignorance that everything is miraculous."

"There is no place to search for the truth.
Though it is right beneath your feet, there is no place it can be found."

What is a blessing?

Art : Sandra Bierman

"What is a blessing?
A blessing is a circle of light drawn around a person to protect, heal and strengthen.” ...“It is a gracious invocation where the human heart pleads with the divine heart. When a blessing is invoked, a window opens in eternal time.”

-  John O'Donohue

Be alive

When you arise in the morning,
think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive,
to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. ♥

Prayer for taking adverse conditions onto the path

"If being sick is best, please make me ill;
If being cured is best, please restore my health;
If being dead is best, please make me die;
If long life is best, please prolong my life;
If shorter life is best, please shorten my life.
May all enjoy the fortune of enlightenment."

~ prayer for taking adverse conditions onto the path, in MIND TRAINING: THE GREAT COLLECTION, translated by Thupten Jinpa (2006)

Happy New Year to everyone

Francisco de Zurbarán, Allegory of Charity (detail), c. 1655

"We must look at ourselves over and over again in order to learn to love,
to discover what has kept our hearts closed, and what it means to allow our hearts to open."

Jack Kornfield
